Today we're talking about messes. And....cleanups. I'm talking through a passage in John where it says this. Actually, here's the devotion that I reference in the video. Enjoy this one!!!!
24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent 25 questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 “I baptize with[e] water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.” 28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing. - John 1:24-28
John’s baptism demonstrated the humble willingness to repent, be cleansed, and prepare for the coming Messiah. Yet John’s baptism gave nothing to help someone keep clean. The work of Jesus and His baptism of the Holy Spirit represents more than John’s baptism.
The beauty of a relationship with Christ is the ability to washed clean of our sins. Daily. Jesus' work on the cross is a constant reminder of our need for a Savior. Someone to save us from our sin. Daily. We don't just get clean once....we are cleaned daily...because we make mess after mess. Then...the grace of the Father continues to work in our lives.
We have grace on top of grace to clean up the messes on top of messes that we have in our lives.
Thanks be to God.
