Daily Devotions Day 3 - Power

Do You Know The Power God Gives To You?

How Do You See God's Power In Your Life?

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.” - Ephesians‬ ‭1:18-21‬

Open the eyes of my heart. That’s quite a prayer. That we would see the world as Jesus sees it. That what breaks his heart breaks ours. That the needs that He sees are the needs that we see. All of this so that we may know the hope that he has given us. The inheritance we have and the power we have.

Amazing. Paul’s prayer here is to have our eyes opened so that we can see Jesus. So many times in our days we are blinded by the troubles, the stress, the anxiety of what the world throws at us. But he’s reminding and praying that we would see more. That our eyes would focus on something else. That we would know the power that we have access to. Jesus.

The same power that raised him from the dead is that same power that we have access to?

According to Paul, yes.

image3

Reflect...

Do we live like that? Do we embrace that? Do we believe that?

Do we really believe that?  The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power that lives in us.  Kind of hard to believe. That’s where faith comes into play. Where our faith muscles start to get sore because we are working them overtime.  Faith says that that power is in us. Our mind says it’s not. Let’s listen to faith. Let’s listen to the words of Paul here and believe them. Laying aside all human comprehension here and believing in the power of Jesus.

Pray about that today. Pray about how that works in your life.

God, open our eyes. Open our hearts and open our ears so that we might see you, hear you and trust you more.  So that we might believe in Your power in our lives.

Can you recall a time where you've really felt God's power with you?

Big or small occasion...it doesn't matter!

I felt the enormous strength of Gods power when my 13 year old daughter was carried far out to sea on her surfboard. I ran to the edge of the ocean and cried out to God to bring her back to shore. She was so far away. Then I cried out to the Lord to bring her straight back to the shore on a big surfing wave and he did. All the way in. I’ll remember it for ever.

I enjoy your Devotionals and music!
        Thank You!
I struggle with a lot.I lost my son in 2016, from a drug overdose. 6 months later I had a four bi-pass. It was a very long recovery. My younger son has also been on drugs off and on for 20 plus years. He now has Rheumatoid Arthritis and High Blood Pressure.
Through all of this my faith has slipped, but I know it wasn’God, but me who pulled away.
I’m slowly coming back. The Vivid and politics are also very stressful.

I remember a time when a friend was going through great emotional times and asked me to pray over her as she felt her mind was taken over by an evil spirit. I signed the cross on her forehead and the spirit took over and she was lashing out on me. I prayed, God’s strength came over me and although I held her arms gently she coudn’t lash out and I prayed for the evil to go and for Jesus to take over. He did and that’s when I realised how powerful His love is when we are weak, and call on Him.

        • Dave Pettigrew on July 5, 2020 at 11:09 pm

Carol, thanks for sharing. Yes, God’s strength is powerful. God’s love is powerful!

In my 30+ years as a Christian I have witnessed Gods power so many times. The greatest was May 27, 2016 when my husband, who is Senior Pastor, and stands strong on The Word of God, suffered a spontaneous right carotid dissection. I was taken into a conference room and told it didn’t look good and most who gave these types of strokes never make it. Our entire church family plus our family were gathered around his bed in the ICU just before Life Lion was going to transport him to Hershey Medical Center. Our Adult Sunday School teacher led that room including nurses and life lion team in a Holy Spirit filled prayer. Then one by one they took turns getting down and speaking into their Pastors ear words of life and encouragement. The last one to speak was a young mother whom we had prayed and interceded for when the Drs told her parents she would not make it through the night as she had bacterial meningitis. She spoke to her pastor: when I couldn’t fight for myself you fought for me now it’s our turn to fight for you. With those words The Father spoke to my heart Trust Me, everything is going to be fine. My husband hemorrhage 7 days in the Drs eyes not good, severe brain damage occurs. On day 7 he woke up and wanted a drink. On day 9 they moved him to rehab. 40 days later he walked out of that hospital and today continues to preach the gospel!!!! The power of God abides in us!!!!!

Gail. thanks so much for sharing. Amen. The power of God is in us, around us and exists through us. Continued prayers for you.

    • Alistair Clarke on March 9, 2020 at 2:17 pm

Hi dave. Another beautiful song. As I said earlier I felt the LORD’S power when I am doing my volunteer work. So the first time I realised HIS power was last year when HE got me to do my very first work assignment making up packs of books and booklets. All of a sudden HE should me how to go about it and how to put books etc in order to fit in the packs. I had never done anything like that before. Now it is second nature to me.

  4. Tamara Verbrugge on February 29, 2020 at 3:23 am

Yes very much felt Gods power a few times. One I wont forget is my son was in ICU a few months back. Suicide attempt. Was not looking good as they had to revive his heart. I went to visit him and tubes everywhere. Set up prayer chains for him. 3 days later he was released and well. He now has been working for the last 3 months. A true miracle. Glory to God. Makes me so emotional of Gods mercy and love every time I reflect on it. My son had over a dozen suicide attempts and he is a walking testimony.

I am so thankful that God’s power does dwell through the Indwelling Holy Spirit. I have Dialysis every three days a week, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, so when I have a bad treatment where my cath isn’t working the way that it was made to, then I cry out to my Savior to get me through the treatment through his Mighty Power to help me. I sit the for 3 1/2 hours listening to worship music, which helps me feel that my God is near me , helping me to get through my treatment.. God is a good, good Father. It is, in those times, that He rescues me.

    • Dave Pettigrew on March 6, 2020 at 4:11 pm

Roger. Thanks for sharing your story. Prayers up for your treatments. Prayers for healing for you brother.

  6. Mary J Miller on February 29, 2020 at 12:21 pm

I feel God’s power mostly when I am in the wilderness. I have health issues but at my lowest points I feel him holding me. When the doctors say that is all I can do, I hear God say -i got this. When I am alone he holds me,when I fear-He rescues me . When I am sad, I sing, He then brings me joy. HOWEVER I feel him most when i have access to his throne room were i see Him lifted up and Holy holy holy is he. I see God’s heart more there for i am reminded of the cross, the sacrifice He took to allow me access and the grace and mercy i do not deserve but have so freely.

    • Dave Pettigrew on March 6, 2020 at 4:12 pm

Mary. Thanks for the comment. Appreciate you reaching out and sharing. God holds us every day, every hour, every minute. He’s got this for sure. Prayers up for you.

My faith is still strong despite a great loss in my life when my eldest daughter went missing and was found dead the next day. That was
four years ago and I still mourn for her. I feel like I failed her in so many ways and it hurts knowing that. I gave her a second hug the last
time I saw her not knowing it would be the last time. She was loved by so many and loved teaching Art. Michelle was only 33 years old.
    I miss her so much.

I have had so many times where God has stepped in and rescued me in impossible situations. But I will share the most recent one with you. I had been through a few days of trauma with a member of my family. And I always know that God is going to step in as he has so many times before. I called on people to pray as I had to make a very difficult desicion to protect myself. God heard our prayers and undertook and removed the pressure from the situation. But I was still left feeling the trauma of tbe situation. A friend called Emmanuel prayed for me and God said hold out your hands which I did and when Emmanuel finished praying he said. I could see the trauma breaking off of you and there was a Golden light in front of you. Wow I was overwhelmed by the Power of God in that moment. He broke trauma off me and the Glory of God was in front of me. He is so amazing. Since then about 1 day after my daughter who had been waiting for new accomodation was offered a new 4 bed bungalow. God is so amazing. Im in Awe if him.😇

  12. Barbara MacGregor MACGREGOR on March 6, 2020 at 2:39 pm

I saw God work in a wonderful way when my daughter came home at 9:30 at night to tell us the news she was pregnant. I was so broken all that we had taught her thrown aside by her own strong will. I cried all night. The next morning I was to speak at a ladies meeting about 30 min away from my home. I cried out to the Lord and I felt so empty and discouraged. When I arrived I prayed and told the Lord I had nothing to give and I needed Him so deeply to get thru the morning. I then got myself together and went in to the meeting. As I stood to speak I was so very aware that there was nothing of me and only the power of God speaking thru me. It was an experience I will never forget. God met me at this low point emotionally and the result of His message was several ladies who also needed faith to move their mountains came for prayer. I knew without doubt God would see us thru these circumstances. Our daughter chose to keep her baby and go it alone. Our precious granddaughter has been a great joy to me. Our daughter also surrendered her life to the Lord and turned her life around. God never fails us!

      Barbara,

thanks for the comment. amazing. prayers up for all of it. may God continue to work in your life and through this entire situation. thanks for being involved in our devotionals!

  13. Christine Lingard on March 29, 2020 at 8:37 am

I have felt God’s power in my life many times. The two most amazing were; when I was 24 on 29/02/76, my first husband and I were in a car accident. My head hit the windscreen on impact. I was unconscious for two weeks. When I came round I didn’t know I was in icu. I had no memory of the accident. People around me were moaning and shouting out. I thought I was in a mental hospital! I got out of bed, my left leg gave way and I collapsed on the floor, nurses came running. They told me I had been in an accident. I remember shouting and screaming, my dad was called in, he had one of those cameras which have you an instant photo, he showed me the photo of our crumpled mini. The consultant said with my head injury I would be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life and would never hold down a job again. I was a backslid Christian. I pulled the sheets over my head and prayed to God to take me, or heal me, at that point I wanted to die.

I didn’t die and after months of gruelling physio, lots of tears and prayer I returned to work that September. I had an appointment with my consultant. He couldn’t believe what he saw!! I was walking, had returned to work. He said this was impossible with my type of brain injury. I told him I had been healed, it took months but I had been healed. He said that was an inspiration!

My second healing was from polymyalgia, a few years ago. I had prayer in my church. I knew I had been healed. I had tingling all over. I stopped taking the steroids!! My Gp was so angry and refused to believe I was healed. Then after the third blood test, she had to conceded that I was clear! She didn’t believe it! I told her Jesus healed me. I praise God and witness about these and other experiences when I can. We have a Great God who never leaves us, through the good and bad times.

John 14:12 says “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
These are so amazing….Jesus is telling us that we have the same power..Jesus did nothing on His own, everything was from the Father…we have access, through the Holy Spirit to do great things in Jesus’ name but most of us don’t get it…is it lack of faith? is it fear of power or even fear of the responsibility? I think lack of knowledge plays a huge part…we are so willing to accept what the world hands us without realizing it contradicts the promises God has made. There is power in the word..power in speaking the word…power in knowing what to speak and what not to speak.

    • Carol B on August 21, 2020 at 3:53 pm

Hope you are going to the retreat. We should talk. Good stuff. God is amazing.

  21. Bernadette Mitchell on June 9, 2020 at 12:05 am

This past week all the children who have gone missing has been on my mind and I have been praying the Mystical Prayers from the book Devotion to the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ and acknowledging the Trinity. I was pleading with the Trinity and Mother Mary to find these children for their sake and their families sake. Out of the blue yesterday my daughter told me they had found 350 some children confined and ready to be sent out. I was so thankful for my prayers (and I am sure others who were praying as well) were answered.

    God is Good!
