9.11.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on the Holy Spirit. Part 62. Fight.

PRAYER: Please pray for families that are still grieving the tragedies of September 11.

DEVOTION: “I believe that we will all grasp the truth that we are not our own (1 Cor. 6:19). In the second place, we belong to a spiritual order; we don’t belong to the earth. And not only that, but our minds and our bodies, our whole position through the eternal Spirit-always have ot be on the ascending position. To descend is to be conformed. To ascend is to be transformed.” (pg 88)

So, a few things I want to speak on here but first, here’s the verse that Smith references:

1 Corinthians 6:19 – “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own”

Pretty powerful verse. Let’s break it down for a minute. Our bodies are not our own. They are temples of the Holy Spirit. So basically, our bodies are homes for the Spirit. We need to make that home as comfortable as we can for the Spirit. How do we do that? By bringing Jesus into the equation. We need to make our thoughts, actions, reactions, speech and more pleasing to the Spirit because He is living here in us. How do we do that? Jesus. We bring Jesus into every equation, situation, story in our lives.

We are not our own. We are the Lord’s. As we discussed in previous devotions, we have this downpayment on our souls from God. That downpayment is the Spirit in us. We are not our own.

I love Smith’s last sentence above. “To descend is to be conformed. To ascend it so be transformed.” We are not here to conform to this world. We are not here to be dragged down or enticed by it’s….everything. We are here to ascend. To be lifted higher. To be made new by Jesus.

Today. Fight the urge to be conformed. Resist. Fight to be transformed. Fight with all you have. Bring Jesus into the equation. Bring Him into the fight. He is standing with you as you push back the temptations of the world. Let His Spirit in you fight for you. Fight for what is right and good and holy.

Let Jesus into it all.
