8.31.21 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on Matthew. Part 206. Rest.

For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.'” – Matthew 11:30

Jesus has made an invitation to those who will hear Him. He has said that He has the power to reveal the Father to whomever He chooses. Then He offered to all who are weighed down and weary the opportunity to be yoked to Him. They will find rest for their souls since His burden is light and His yoke is easy to carry. What Jesus asks of those who would do this is simply that they would make the commitment to Him (Matthew 11:28–29).

When Jesus said, earlier, that the path to life was narrow and difficult (Matthew 7:14), He was speaking of how the unbelieving world sees the Christian life. To them, it means giving up earthly pleasures and taking on things like persecution (John 16:33). In terms of salvation, however, what Christ offers is much “easier” than the impossible task of earning one’s own salvation (Romans 3:20; Galatians 2:16).

Based on the following verses in chapter 12, Jesus seems to be contrasting the requirements He will place on the Jewish people with the burdensome requirements placed on them by the Jewish religious leaders, especially the Pharisees (Matthew 23:4). The Pharisees will once again challenge Jesus for not obeying the extra requirements they have added to the law of Moses. Jesus will show them what they have missed.

I sit here shaking my head at these last few verses. The complexity of them combined with the simplicity is mind blowing.

Find rest for your soul in Jesus.

AMEN! Find rest for your soul IN JESUS! Every minute,, every second, let my every thought today, as I go about my day, rest= stop in JESUS, (Looked up ” rest” in dictionary+ STOP!)

Colossi ans 3: 12-15 ! tells us , ” But Christ is all and in all ! Therefore as the elect of God , holy and beloved………….” Put on “tender mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long suffering, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgiving on another, so you must also do. But above all these things, put on love, ……….And let the peace of God rule in year hearts to which also you were called in one body and be thankful.
( sorry Dave, that the words in Matthew spin me to other scenarios) I am going to keep going to Jesus (REST-STOP) today! Be blessed!

This has so many levels for me. The rest is so true Peggy. Love all you have to say. I find starting my day with these devotionals and with God help align the day. Off to a good start. Putting the day in His hands. Resting in that. Also look at the lines of Jewish people with the burdensome requitements put on them. I think of growing up and how I was taught that with the doing and obeying. But God has it. Jesus died for that. Not that we shouldn’t strive to be more like Him. But on a good day or bad we are still His. Then the line of giving up earthly pleasures to take on persecution. Can say that, that one I still struggle with. I don’t like confrontation. I like everyone to get along and make things better for people. So… Give me some advise on that. How do we take on that persecution. I know I see it sometimes when Dave comes. Almost like when it’s too good. The devil wants His hand in it. That’s when I know that God is going to be doing amazing things. Just stick with it. Makes me not give up even more. Lets me dig my heals in for furture things. But that persecution? Should I not be giving time to that. Just give it to God? Thoughts please. What do you do? How do you handle that? Have to admit I like that’s how I fight my battles line…
