8.21.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on the Holy Spirit. Part 41. Pray.

PRAYER: Please pray today for Jojo who is suffering with sickness. Prayers for healing.

DEVOTION: “If we were to examine John’s gospel, we would see that Jesus predicted all that we are getting today with the coming of the Holy Spirit. Our Lord said that the Holy Spirit would take of the things of His word and reveal them to us. (See John 14:26 and John 16:14) (pg 67)

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. – John 14:26

He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. – John 16:14

The Holy Spirit takes the things of the Word and reveals them to us. Takes the truths of the Word and makes them known to us. The Spirit takes the hope of the Word and reveals it to us.

So. Let’s talk about this practically. How many times do you sit down and open the Bible and actually pray before readying? Just pray before you read, before you try to understand what you’re about to read? If I’m honest. Not enough.

So, the idea here is that before we even attempt to open the Bible and understand what we’re about to read, we pray. Even before reading a devotion. Pray. Before doing anything that involves God, we pray. So basically anything and everything we do over the course of the day. Pray.

This Holy Spirit whom Jesus sent to us, is the counselor, the interpreter of it all. The Spirit in us reveals all that Jesus gave us. All that He was trying to teach us in His word.

So. Today’s assignment. Pray. But here’s the thing. It shouldn’t be an assignment. It should be a lifestyle. Let’s make it that.

Pray. Today.

Dear Lord help me too better my prayer life. Help me to pray before reading your words. May my mind be opened to soak in your words and absorb what each of the authors has to say. Thank you for giving me the gift of listening. Amen.
I’m glad to know that God is with me always. He guides me and my words. He corrects me as in walking in my path. Be filled with his glory and pray unceasing.

I used to ask God to reveal things to me as I read the Word. Devine revelation is pretty cool stuff. Somewhere along the way I quit doing that, even rarely really getting into the Word. It’s time I get my act together!

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God” Romans 8: 26-27.

God I thank you and praise you for the provision of your Holy Spirit in us; crowning Jesus in us! For those times when my groaning does not make sense to me…..it does to You!! I enter prayer with rejoicing, reminding myself that I am about to enter the presence of the Creator of the Universe, the creator of my very soul and He KNOWS me!! Incomprehensible to me!! Praise you Jesus!!
