PRAYER: Please take a look at the Prayer Request Wall post. I’ll be posting prayer requests up there that I receive.
DEVOTION: “In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:1-11
From page 66 in the Wigglesworth book: “Jesus our Mediator and Advocate, was filled with the Holy Spirit. He commanded His followers concerning these days we are in and gave instructions about the time through the Holy Spirit. I can see that if we are going to accomplish anything, we are going to accomplish it because we are under the power of the Holy Spirit.”
I like this last sentence.
We get so caught up in trying to do things on our own. Caught up in our own strength, power, egos, desires, restlessness….Jesus is saying, “Wait, I’ve given you the Helper, He is here with you. He is the Spirit. You have power.”
So this idea of doing things on our own power versus us doing things under the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s a good conversation to have with yourself.
How often are you introducing the Spirit into your decisions, conversations and daily interactions? Probably not much. I know it’s not on my list of priorities…but, maybe it should be. Maybe there’s something to it. Maybe we need to start this as a daily practice, an hourly practice. A conscious effort to say, “God, your Spirit is inside of me, what should I do here?” “Holy Spirit, let my words give life today.” “Spirit of God living in me, lead me to where you want me to go.” Conversations like that may open doors to more and more interaction with the Spirit in your life.
I know. It’s a lot to ask but maybe, just maybe, we can be brought closer to the Spirit in us by interacting with the Spirit and seeing where that might take us.
Are you up for giving that a shot?
