7.31.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on the Holy Spirit. Part 21. Speech.

A mic is the only thing that stands between the audience and its prey.

PRAYER: Please pray today for our Friday night worship livestream guests. That they would continue to know and experience Jesus in new ways.

DEVOTION: “No man can tame the tongue” – James 3:8

But…when the Holy Spirit begins, He tames the whole body until the tongue, moved by the power of the Spirit, says things exactly as the Lord would be delighted for them to be said.

I know that I speak a lot on the power of the tongue and the power of our words. It’s no light matter. As Smith points out in the section above and as James speaks of in the third chapter of his book, we can’t tame the tongue….

But…we can influence it. We can train it. We can fill our hearts and minds with things of God that then influence our speech patterns and behaviors.

The Holy Spirit is the comforter, the Holy Spirit takes the necessary word at the right time and gives it to you. After the Holy Spirit takes charge of you, He is the comforter who brings thought and language to your life, and it is amazing.

So here’s another reason to embrace this Spirit of God in us. The ability to have thought and language in our lives. The ability to let the Spirit take control of our thoughts, our speech. The ability to have the Spirit move in our hearts to that our hearts can then move in a way that is a reflection of Jesus. This….is incentive. This….is motivation. This continues to drive home the point that the Spirit in us, gives new life, just as our words give new life.

Today. Be filled with new life. Be filled with the Spirit of God inside you who will take your words and make them give life. Make them be life to others. The Spirit who changes your thoughts so that you can reflect Jesus more and more in every step of your walk with Him.

“Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
    Matthew 18:18

    That is a powerful scripture.
