PRAYER: Please pray today for our country. That God would have mercy on our land and healing would begin.
DEVOTION: Yesterday we were talking about how Jesus could not be satisfied if anyone was dissatisfied.
Today, Smith gets into a direct approach to new life. Listen to this:
Yes, the heavy hand of God is full of mercy. The two edged sword is full of dividing. His quickening Spirit puts to death everything that needs to die so that He might transform you by the resurrection of His life. And this is the order of the Spirit. Can’t you see how He says, “Come thirsty one, come needy one. I will give you a drink that will create a thirst in you that will prepare you for the coming of the Holy Spirit, that will make the spring that I give you a river of living water?
There’s so much in here but I think the main take away is that God, full of mercy, implores us to put to death all that takes us away from Him so that we can be transformed by the Life that is Jesus. Jesus says, “Come to me all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” We need to take Him up on that request. So many of us are continuing to try and carry this burden on our own. We can’t. There’s just too much. Our kind, compassionate, loving Savior takes it from us. Is offering to take it from us. Today, let it go. Let it all go to Jesus. He releases the burdens that we carry.
Smith goes on to ask this question which I love. Do you have the spring or the river. The spring is good because it has the same kind of water as the river. But the river means plentifulness, and the Holy Spirit is the river.
I want the river. The spring is nice, it’s gentle, it sustains us. The river is a roaring, wild, sometimes raging force of nature. This is the Spirit I’d love to tap into.
Pray today for the river. For the life change that the river brings. Be thankful for the spring. Let the spring sustain and give life. Let the river roar and bring impossible change.
