7.23.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on the Holy Spirit. Part 13. River.

PRAYER: Please pray today for our country. That God would have mercy on our land and healing would begin.

DEVOTION: Yesterday we were talking about how Jesus could not be satisfied if anyone was dissatisfied.

Today, Smith gets into a direct approach to new life. Listen to this:

Yes, the heavy hand of God is full of mercy. The two edged sword is full of dividing. His quickening Spirit puts to death everything that needs to die so that He might transform you by the resurrection of His life. And this is the order of the Spirit. Can’t you see how He says, “Come thirsty one, come needy one. I will give you a drink that will create a thirst in you that will prepare you for the coming of the Holy Spirit, that will make the spring that I give you a river of living water?

There’s so much in here but I think the main take away is that God, full of mercy, implores us to put to death all that takes us away from Him so that we can be transformed by the Life that is Jesus. Jesus says, “Come to me all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” We need to take Him up on that request. So many of us are continuing to try and carry this burden on our own. We can’t. There’s just too much. Our kind, compassionate, loving Savior takes it from us. Is offering to take it from us. Today, let it go. Let it all go to Jesus. He releases the burdens that we carry.

Smith goes on to ask this question which I love. Do you have the spring or the river. The spring is good because it has the same kind of water as the river. But the river means plentifulness, and the Holy Spirit is the river.

I want the river. The spring is nice, it’s gentle, it sustains us. The river is a roaring, wild, sometimes raging force of nature. This is the Spirit I’d love to tap into.

Pray today for the river. For the life change that the river brings. Be thankful for the spring. Let the spring sustain and give life. Let the river roar and bring impossible change.

Spring or river? The spring is nice… calm and manageable. The river ride will be rough, unpredictable, I won’t see where I am going…it is out of my control..But…I’ll be somewhere beyond what I can imagine

Thinking Let Go Let God and Jason’s Gray song Down to the River.
    Gods timing will be perfect.
Thinking Dave Pettigrew and Jason Gray on tour is going to be amazing. God is waiting for the right people that need to hear this.

This reminds me of the very powerful sermon from Ezekial 47 given by Pastor Rob at last years retreat!
9 And wherever the river goes,[d] every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea[e] may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes.
    I love the symbolism…..”Living water”!!

I thought about that sermon also…we are ankle deep and comfortable, knee deep still comfortable but God wants us neck deep…and.. I was also thinking that our bodies are mostly water and the earth is mostly water … both need God
