7.20.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on the Holy Spirit. Part 10. Close?

PRAYER: Pray tonight for your words. That they would be pleasing to God and beneficial to His people.

DEVOTION: Yesterday we were digging deeper into our words. How our words are not just words but life. Each time we get up, start our day and speak to someone, we are imparting life. Not something to be taken lightly.

Smith goes on to talk about laying down a firm foundation for understanding the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He quotes this verse:

“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” – Matthew 3:11

This was John the Baptist speaking. Smith speaks about how John’s word “moved the whole of creation that day”. People were gathering from all over to hear John speak. He was changing lives and preparing hearts for what Jesus would bring to people in the coming weeks and months.

OK. So. Smith goes pretty deep here so hang with me. There’s a section in this chapter called “Immersed with the Spirit”. It talks about how most of us have seen water baptism in action and know what it means. His desire is for us to see that “God’s very great desire is for you to be covered with the baptism of the Holy Spirit”

What exactly does that mean? Good question. He continues, “He wants you to be so immersed and covered and flooded with the light and revelation of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, that your whole body will be filled, and not only filled but also covered over until you walk in the presence of the power of God.”

So now we’re walking into some very touchy subjects. Being “filled with the Holy Spirit” has many different meanings.

Here’s where I’m at with this, and we can discuss this in the comments but, this notion of my whole body being filled and covered over by the presence of God. This notion of walking in the presence of the power of God is appealing to me.

What this boils down to are the questions. How close do you want to be to God? Really, how close? Close enough to give up some things, to sacrifice a few idols that you’ve been holding to? Close enough to let go of those things that are separating you from Him?

Be honest. It’s a difficult conversation to have with your ego. With your pride.

How close do you want to be to God? How much are you willing to give Him?

I want all in. I see what happens when people are all in. I have some reservations though….so, I brought them all to God…I am too deep to stop or go back anyway, so i put all the growing pains on the cross. I know the answers…there is scripture addressing each concern but knowing is not enough. I have to work on believing…fully confident and consistent belief
