PRAYER: Today, pray about your relationship and your partnership with God.
DEVOTION: We spoke about our partnership with God yesterday. I meant to get deeper into this paragraph but that phrase “living cooperation” really sent me on a different path for a minute.
OK. So Smith goes on to say this. May the Lord grant you this thought today: How may I more and more abandon myself from any earthly, human fellowship, until I am absolutely so bound to God that God as the rightofway to the throne of my heart, until the seat of affection is blessedly purified, until there is no room for anything except the Son of God, who is the author and finisher of faith (Hebrews 12:2). Then Christ will be manifested in your flesh, destroying everything that is outside of Him.
So this is getting back to the purity point that we made two days ago. This idea that the more pure our heart is the more faith we actually have. I think it’s an incredibly important point.
The question he asks here in the above paragraph are great ones. How do I abandon myself from any earthly human fellowship, until God has the rightofway to the throne of my heart.
I’m almost asking myself, hey Smith, are you serious? But he is. This idea of how do we take away the distractions of the world so that God has the direct line to our hearts. Remove the garbage in the way, remove the temptations, the desires, the greed, the lust, the pride, the gluttony, the jealousy. All of it. We need to find ways to destroy these traits so that God can reign in our hearts and minds. So that God can be first.
I know, you’re probably wondering why you’re reading this now. This is too much. It’s too much to ask. The conviction, the process. It’s a lot.
And yes, it is. But….when Jesus died on the cross for you and me. That was a lot.
I’m struggling with this as much as you are. I’m fighting it actually.
Let’s work on refocusing our intentions and desires. Create in me a clean heart oh Lord. Renew a right Spirit in me.
Prayers up for you today as you work on abandoning it all so that Jesus may be the true King of your heart.
