PRAYER: I replied to over 70 emails today with prayer requests. God knows each one of these by name. Pray that God would hold these precious prayers in His hands and answer in His time.
DEVOTION: Smith speaks about a “Double Cure” in this first chapter. I love, love, love this paragraph.
“My friend, you need a double cure. You first need saving and cleansing and then the baptism of the Holy Spirit, until the old man never rises anymore, until you are absolutely dead to sin and alive to God by His Spirit and know that old things have passed away. When the Holy Spirit gets possession of a person, he is a new man entirely – his whole being becomes saturated with divine power. We come a habitation of Him who is all light, all revelation, all power, and all love. Yes, God the Holy Spirit is manifested within us in such a way that it is glorious.”
Saturated with divine power. Let that sink in for a minute. You see, I think that most of us feel as though this power is not here. Not available to us or not even an option to actually talk about. But…as I’ve read more and more and as I’ve spoken to more and more people about this, as I believe what I read in the Bible, this power is here. It’s within us because of the Spirit.
This power is alive in you and me as believers and followers of Christ. Oh that our hearts would believe and our minds would not be so focused on worldly things. Oh that our hearts and minds would let Jesus flow through them like raging waters in a river after a storm.
This is the life I’m looking for. To be completely saturated in divine power. Completely beholden to Christ. Nothing else.
Father, that we might let go of it all and be focused on You and only You. That our hearts would set aside the things of this world. That our minds would not be tempted by the trivial things that tempt us here. But…that our hearts and minds would be solely focused on what it means to be Jesus to each other and to our neighbors.
Father, let us be saturated in your divine power.
