PRAYER: Take a moment and thank God for the life you live.
DEVOTION: “And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us.” – 1 John 3:23-24
I’m sitting on the porch writing this tonight. It’s an incredibly beautiful night. The soft breeze blowing the subtle noises of the night through the trees. The light that I use to read attracts bugs that are normally never seen, tonight they congregate like they’ve been invited to a party.
To think that we can live this life, in the way that we do is still mind blowing sometimes.
This Jesus, the son of God, gave us the Holy Spirit in our lives. Gave us hope. Gave us life. Gave us freedom and inspires us to do more.
He commands us to love. Kind of a fitting verse for these times don’t you think. As I write this we are in the middle of protests and unrest in our country, the likes of which we haven’t seen in years.
Jesus’ command is simple. Love one another. His Spirit in us guides us on this path to love. A path that teaches us to set aside selfish goals, set aside our egos, set aside our own interests so that we can look after others. This is love. To care for widows, orphans, to care for those who can’t care or speak up for themselves. As followers of Jesus, this is our calling.
His Spirit lives in us and gives us the kindness, compassion and care to actually institute change.
We can be the change. We can be the love.
Love one another today.
Love wins. Always.
