PRAYER: Please pray for every comment tonight in our livestream. So many are hurting right now.
DEVOTION: “If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead. Anyone who hates another brother or sister is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don’t have eternal life within them.” – 1 John 3:14-15
Love. The operative word once again in John’s narrative here. How many times does he mention love in this book? Forty-six to be exact. It’s pretty important to his rhetoric here.
Here we are again focusing on love. If we love our brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to life.
A little research here: The Greek root word translated here as “love” is agape. The term implies a selfless, self-sacrificing love focused on other people. Those who exhibit this kind of love give strong evidence to support that they are true believers.
So, this love, this agape love, implies that a sacrifice is present, a selfless love. A love that doesn’t expect anything in return.
Kind of sounds like another love we have spoken about.
When was the last time you loved and expected nothing in return? Something to work on? If I’m honest…..yes.
