6.27.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. 1 John 5:4-5. Overcome the world.

PRAYER: Please pray for love. That God would help you love more in your daily walk.

DEVOTION: “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” – 1 John 5:4-5

How are you feeling today? Do you feel like you’re overcoming the world? Feel like you’re winning?

If you’re like me, this “overcoming the world” statement is something that doesn’t quite click every day. I was just devotioning on this the other day, about how sometimes, overcoming the world is pretty far off. How about just “overcoming the ability to get out of bed?”

Yet, John tells us, that we overcome the world when Jesus is the one that we hold our trust and belief in.

So…do we believe it? Do we believe that we can overcome the world because of our walk with Jesus?

I do. I don’t think it’s something that I can come to grips with every day, but it’s certainly something that inspires me, something that keeps me going each day. It leads me into a deeper relationship with Jesus because when you’re at the point in life, or even the day, when you say, “Hey God, this wasn’t on the agenda or the plan. This wasn’t what today was supposed to look like.”, I think we can take the next step and pray. We can take the step that says, “Jesus, this isn’t what the day was supposed to look like so I need your help today in overcoming the world.”

Not the entire world, but our little world. Our little sphere of influence. Our little lives. Jesus, today, help me with this temptation. Help me with this obstacle, this thing that I keep tripping over. It’s a stumbling block in my walk with you. Help me to overcome this part of my world today.

Today. Your world needs change. We all need change. God is here with us, asking us to ask Him into the change. Into the ability to overcome the world you’re living in.

Let Him in.

Hmmmm never thought of those prayers for help as overcoming a piece of my ‘world’. Guess that is something else to ponder!
