6.1.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. 1 John 3:6-8. Righteous.

PRAYER: Please pray for our country. That peace would prevail.

DEVOTION: “Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is. Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.” – ‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:6-8

There a lot here. I wanted to touch on the language here. Pretty harsh words to describe what is going on here but maybe we need it. It’s so black and white right? No gray or blurred lines here…..we sometimes search for the blurred lines so we can kinda get away with it…maybe?

When people do right, it shows that they are righteous and belong to Christ. So….let’s do right. I don’t think John could be more clear here. Now, the hard part comes in…doing right. We all sin, we all fall down, but, the righteous get up and try again, the righteous seek Jesus in the failure. Seek Jesus when they trip, when they fall, when they know that they have messed up…

Let’s be righteous. Let’s seek Jesus in it all.

I love the last verse here. Again, plain, simple, to the point. The son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. There is no alternate reason here. He didn’t come to, kind of set those works aside for later. He didn’t come to blur the lines of those works. No, he came to destroy the work of the devil. He doesn’t give the devil any room to move….why should we?

Be righteous today.

AMEN. Do not give the devil an audience …. Jesus died for that sin you just confessed so do not let it condemn you….put a period on it it is the end of the sentence. Be anxious for nothing, be still, cast your cares, pray…give it to God and trust in Him, put a period on, it is the end of the paragraph. Our God is bigger and stronger and HE WINS …the enemy wants to devour us…don’t make it easy for him…put a period on it, end of story.

So true! He does win every time but the world continues to throwing flaming arrows at us. We dodge ’em in Jesus’ name!
