6.1.21 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on Matthew. Part 119. Son of God.

Yesterday, we spoke about these 2 demon possessed dudes strolling out from a cave into the path that Jesus and His buds were walking on. We pick up the story here:

“And they cried out, saying, ‘What business do You have with us, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?'” – Matthew 8:29

It becomes clear the demons have recognized Jesus.

The questions asked of Jesus by the demons reveal to us several things. First, the demons call Jesus the Son of God. Demons are fallen angels, those who joined Satan in his rebellion against God. Jesus, as God’s eternal Son, would have known these beings since they were first created as angels. They would have known Him as the one with power and authority over all things. Their questions confirm Jesus’ identity as being God’s Son.

Second, the demons recognize that Jesus will ultimately have the responsibility of bringing judgment on them in the form of torment. They understand Him to be the judge and the enforcer of the judgment. They know they will be found guilty and tormented.

Third, the demons know that the time has not yet come for their final judgment. They, too, do not seem to understand the purpose of Jesus’ mission on earth in this moment. They might not know there will be a first and second coming to earth by the Son of God.

Once again we see that these demons and all the demons that Jesus encounters know exactly who He is. He is the Son of God, the Messiah, and they fear Him. They know that the authority has walked into the room.

Has the authority walked into your life and conquered the demons that you’re struggling with?

Good question- the easy answer is, “Yes of course. I believe the Bible, so I know that it is true.”
But… is that really what we’re experiencing? If it is, then we’d have peace in the struggles, knowing that the Authority will have the final Word.
If we can honestly say, “It is well with my soul”, when life throws us a curve; then we can truly say that we know that the Authority has walked into the situation.

We also need to fear the Son of God!

But it’s not a bad fear I am talking about, like what the demons experienced.

It’s a reverential fear that will draw us closer to Him!
