PRAYER: Please pray for our friends in recovery. That they would feel Gods presence in the midst of their recovery.
DEVOTION: “So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.” – 1 John 1:6-7
I think all of us can relate to this first verse. We are constantly lying to ourselves. Rationalizing situations. Making ourselves feel better about this decision or that decision. On the outside we want everthing to look and feel perfect. Yet on the inside, things might be rotting. Things might be spiraling out of control like a train set on a course that tears it violently from the tracks.
Honesty. With ourselves and with God. I think that’s where we need to place our steps. I like the phrase, “practice the truth.” A lawyer practices law, a Christian practices truth. This is a core, foundational attribute of Jesus.
Try being honest with yourself. It leads to really interesting conversation. Leads to truth and real honesty.
Father, help us to be honest. We long to be in your light. Help us to stay close to you and your light as we seek you daily.
