5.28.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. 1 John 2:29. Virtue.

PRAYER: Please pray for Tammy tonight who is struggling with some PTSD and insomnia.

DEVOTION: “Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children.” – ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:29‬

right·eous/ˈrīCHəs/adjective: 1. (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous

Another attribute and trait of Jesus is righteousness. Having virtue. A trait worth having in our quivers if we are to be followers and imitators of Jesus.

How is this really defined in a practical sense here? Being virtuous, having high moral standards. Telling the truth. Having a reputation of honesty. These are the traits of a virtuous and righteous person.

These are traits to not only strive for but traits to hold close to our hearts.

A quote from John Steinbeck: “We value virtue but do not discuss it. The honest bookkeeper, the faithful wife, the earnest scholar get little of our attention compared to the embezzler, the tramp, the cheat.”

He’s so right. Virtue is rarely discussed because it’s not interesting. It’s not a good conversation piece. The world leans more on the scandalous than the righteous. But didn’t Jesus say that we are not this world? That our ways are not the ways of this world?

So today. Buck the system. Tell the truth. Let virtue and righteousness reign. Be the example that Jesus taught us to be.
