5.27.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. 1 John 2:28. Time.

PRAYER: Please pray for racial equality in the US. Pray for the families affected by this weekends actions.

DEVOTION: “And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame. Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children.” – ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:28-29‬

So John is really hitting this topic hard here. This idea of constant fellowship and remaining in fellowship with Christ is extremely important.

Our distractions and our own agendas are increasingly prevalent in our lives. How often do you get sidetracked each day? Pulled into another conversation or project? Pulled away from something you were supposed to do? We have to fight for our time. Fight against our distractions and our egos.

I think this is why John is so set on making this such a large chunk of this chapter. His constant reminder that we need to be in fellowship with Jesus is critical.

So….this begs the question. Are you in fellowship with him enough? What wins each day? Work? Reading? Netflix? Your phone? Video games? Other projects?

It’s hard. But….find the time today. Find the time to give more time. Find the time to spend more time with the author of time. The author of space and the author of our lives.

My father was always the first one up in the morning. I remember waking up to the smell of coffee brewing, and on the weekends bacon!!!
He would take the time in the early morning to mentally prepare himself for the day. He would quietly be in in office, with the door shut. I knew not to bother him, that he would emerge, ready to take on the day.
When I was 8 years old, I began to purposely to start my day with prayer. When I don’t take the time, in the early morning, to spend time with God, I am not equipped to deal with my day. When that happens, I need to stop, and restart with prayer.
Thank you for these devotions Dave.

Thanks for sharing Melynda. Agreed. Starting the day with a little focused time with God is a great way to prepare for whatever will be thrown our way that day!

I struggle with how much time is enough time. I have started to center my activities around things of faith. I gave up games because they were taking too much time. And I hardly ever watch tv since the pandemic started which is a wonderful thing! My phone??? Reading??? Those are the hard ones! The majority of time on that is spent reading and with You Version. Facebook is a contender but oh boy that is a tough one with all the Covid-19 issues! I had to snooze a lot of people for my sanity!

I think you have heard it lots Dave, but thank you so much for these devotions they have helped me start my day centered on the best thing in life….Jesus.
