PRAYER: Please pray for continued healing of our nation.

DEVOTION: “Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come. These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us. But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit, and all of you know the truth.” – ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:18-20

I read these verses a few times trying to take all of this in.

When John says that people left the churches, I wonder what the circumstances were. I did a little research and it’s quite literal. These were folks that really just turned their backs on the faith and in God and walked away.

I wonder if it was a little bit of a combination of just not wanting to be involved and not being able to take it. A little “can’t take the heat stay out of the kitchen” type scenario.

To be a follower of Jesus is a little more than just saying I believe. It’s a lifestyle, a discipline. It’s a way of life and an outlook on life that’s different than a lot of what is “acceptable” in the eyes of the world.

I wonder.

But….those who stayed, who believed and lived out that belief had and have the Spirit. The Spirit who gives us truth.

These are a thought provoking set of verses. Almost makes you ask yourself the question….do I have what it takes to be a follower of Jesus….because I certainly don’t want to be anything else.

It is not always easy but God gives us Grace each day to help us along.
AND with the Spirit living within us, what can we NOT accomplish?

We need to be on fire for Jesus. For we are made in his image. We reflect what he shares with us. Think before speaking and trust in the words he puts across our tongues. Do not abandon him for he is with us always.
