5.16.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. 1 John 2:15. This world.

PRAYER: Please pray for church tomorrow. Pray that God would speak.

DEVOTION: “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.” – ‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:15

This world. The things it offers. Very tempting. Sometimes too tempting.

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the glitz, glamour, greed and narcissism of this world.

John knew this. He knew that we would be tempted, put through trials and be torn in our faith walk by what is offered here versus what God puts forth.

The thing is that our treasures are not here, we are not of this world. We are strangers and aliens here. Our citizenship is in heaven. The warning to stay away from worldly desires is a compelling one and one that should be heeded.

But….more importantly, our realization of our citizenship needs to occupy our minds. It’s what keeps our focus in order. Jesus reminds us of all of this daily. Our walk with him brings us joy and direction that can’t be replaced by the joys of this world.

Be reminded today. Love Jesus more than this world. That’s the only true and lasting love.
