“But the centurion replied, ‘Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” – Matthew 8:8
What an incredible statement. Like…really incredible. This officer of the military realizes that Jesus doesn’t need to come to the house to heal the man, he can do it right there…or anywhere for that matter.
Clearly, this military officer understands that Jesus’ power to heal is not limited in any way by distance. He says that one word from Jesus will be enough to heal his servant. He will go on to explain that he sees in Jesus the same authority over life and health as he, himself, has over the soldiers at his command (Matthew 8:9). Jesus will remark (Matthew 8:10) that He has not seen this level of faith in His power and authority among any of the Jewish people He has interacted with.
We’ll get to those verses but I just want to stop and take a minute to absorb and digest this verse a little bit.
And of course to ask a question.
How often do we feel like we have to wait for God to work? How often do we feel like we don’t really have access to Jesus? How often do we hear people say, maybe you’ve said it yourself, “I need to fix this or that to be able to approach God or have a relationship with God.”
Jesus doesn’t wait for us to be ready. He’s always ready. Always available and there for us. We don’t have to fix anything, He does the fixing, He does the healing.
Today. Just let it all go. Give it all to God, he’s waiting and ready to work with you just the way you are.
