4.29.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. Psalm 120:1-2. Cry out

PRAYER: Please pray for Mary. She is awaiting a diagnosis. Pray for healing.

DEVOTION: “I took my troubles to the Lord; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. Rescue me, O Lord, from liars and from all deceitful people.” – Psalms‬ ‭120:1-2‬

We were chatting tonight about the Psalms that are called “A Song of Ascents”. These were the Psalms that were sung by worshippers as they ascended the road to Jerusalem to attend the three pilgrim festivals. There’s a lot of history and explanation to be settled on here but….I love the way this starts…

I took my troubles to the Lord. I cried out and he answered.

Ok. So, do you do this? Do you take your troubles to the Lord? Many of us, guys especially, have trouble talking about our troubles with ourselves let alone sharing them. But, the Psalmist here starts right off with this. Leads by example.

How often do you cry out to God? Really cry out. Make a noise, a loud noise in your conversation with God. There is a historical practice of this all throughout the Bible. So many crying out to God. Why should it stop now?

Today. You have troubles. I have troubles. Take them to God. Cry out to Him. He hears. He listens. He answers.

One of my favorite hyms: “Good to me”
I cry out for your hand of mercy to heal me.
I am weak; I need your love to free me.
O Lord, my rock, my strength in weakness,
    come rescue me, O Lord.
You are my hope; your promise never fails me.
And my desire is to follow you forever.
For you are good, for you are good,
for you are good to me.
For you are good, for you are good,
for you are good to me.
