4.22.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. John 1:8-9. Sin?

PRAYER: Please pray for all of the new folks in a our Monday Night Worship broadcast. That they would continue to attend and be drawn closer to Jesus.

DEVOTION: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1: 8-9

This was one of the first verses I learned when I was a kid. I think I wanted to make sure that I was forgiven. I wanted to make sure that my sins were gone at the end of each day so that I could start over the next day and not have a backlog of sin in my life.

Over time I realized that that wasn’t quite the point. We don’t sin so that we can be forgiven and then sin again. We walk with Jesus so that the desires of the world, our flesh and all else that comes with it fade away because our focus shifts. Our focus becomes more on Him and what He’s doing in our lives. Not on what we’re doing, but what He’s doing to us to make us more like Him.

It’s a heavy conversation. But…it’s one that we need to continually have with ourselves.

Are we checking off boxes and moving on to the next day….or….are we actively seeking Jesus and His will and His intentions for our lives?

Let’s push the sin and all that comes with it out of the way so that we can focus on Him. Yes, easier said than done, but His desire is for us to conquer it. Conquer our sin…because of our faith and our trust in Him beginning and completing a good work in us.

Be encouraged today. Yes, we sin. But God looks past that and is faithful to forgive us so that our path can lead us to Him in every aspect of our lives.

Prayers for you today as you seek Him.
