4.3.21 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on Matthew. Part 62. Needs.

Matthew 6:27-29 says this, “”And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span? And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.”

Here Jesus points out another problem with anxiety, fear, and worry: they’re useless. They don’t work. They don’t help. Those emotions are powerless, so far as those actual needs are concerned. Anxiety is a natural human response—especially when you’re wondering how to feed your family. Still, it’s a brute fact that worry, in and of itself, can’t add a single hour to anyone’s life. Worry is ineffective.

Of course, many will protest that anxiety is not like a hat: it’s not simply something we can remove. God knows this, and understands how difficult it is to put trust in God when times are difficult. In fact, this is why these reminders are in Scripture. If being a born-again believer made all our fears and doubts disappear, there would be no reason for God to remind us not to worry!

The worrying point here is huge. Our ability to worry is endless, tireless and something that many of us unfortunately have no control over. Something that definitely needs to be given over to God in our prayers. Yet…Jesus’ point here is absolutely succinct and on the mark. It’s useless to worry. It does nothing.

Still, in His love, God understands this. Understands our hearts and our souls. Knows that this is something that we struggle with.

Lilies don’t do anything, in comparison to how human beings obtain food and shelter. Lilies of the field stand rooted in place and grow without doing any work or spinning any clothes for themselves. Still, they are dressed in great beauty. They are clothed exactly as God the Father wants them to be.

We are clothed exactly as God wants us to be. God urges us to a more devoted relationship with Him. A more trusting and faithful relationship with Him as we continue to lean on Him for each and every need.

Chapter 6 of Matthew, oh the times I have spent going over every single word of this one verse, and telling God I trust You, and I know You will supply all my needs. Basic needs, not asking for anything extravagant, food, clothes, mortgage payment, school bills, real life situations. When your husband is laid off work, but the bills are not, Yes, I have been in every one of these situations. And I remember them now , reading once again the promises in chapter 6 27 thru 29 and Praise God for every one of those circumstances, because every one brought me to the feet of Jesus, to believe what He said. and today, I sing and Praise Him for He has never failed me , and Great is Your Faithfulness, O Lord !

Great verse for Easter Saturday, especially since Easter lilies are a common reminder of the beauty and purity of the Resurrection story

Amen!! I always tried to instill this in my kids, and now that they are grown, it’s still something I am constantly reminding them about.

Through last year I spent so much time walking and listening to different sermons. One of the sermons, can’t remember which spoke of this verse and the Lillies.
I remember it spoke of the beauty of the lily, especially if viewed under a microscope.
The intricate, microscopic, beauty of the way God made this flower.

As for worry, it can be captured or reduced. It takes time and practice to do this.
    With God it is possible!

    Because of Him
