12.23.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on prayer. Part 38. Wet.

DEVOTION: “This is my endlessly recurrent temptation: to go down to that sea (I think St. John of the Cross called God a sea) and there neither dive nor swim nor float, but only dabble and splash, careful not to get out of my depth and holding on to the lifeline which connects me with my things temporal.” (Pg 98)

Take me deep in to the waters.

Continuing yesterday’s thought. Are we ready to go deep?

Maybe this is coinciding with the end of the year so that we can really take a look at our lives and reset for the new year.

New Years resolution. More prayer.

Yes.

But….maybe it’s more meaningful prayer. More prayer with action.

More prayer with intent and prayer with, dare I say, consequences.

Oh how we love to be ankle deep in the water. It’s safe there. It’s easy. Take me up to my neck….yes, faith. Trust.

Or….is it lack of faith and trust that prevent us from going deeper? Do we really trust God? Really?

Are you ready to get wet?

Frightened? Yes. Me too….

Last year I asked God to make me aware…he did. I wasn’t always comfortable but I was always comforted. I learned a lot…and I learned that I still have a lot to learn. I don’t have a word for 2021 yet but I want this…

He will be like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It will not worry in a year of drought or cease producing fruit.
    Jeremiah 17:8

      hit submit too soon
…I want to be steady, constant, content. I want to be comfortable in the spirit, filled with the water, never being thirsty. Seas, rivers, streams, all good…now…I just want the steady source.

” Take me deep into the waters” !!!! Isn”t this thought the reason we all love the song “oceans”, where feet may fail , so much ! We want this , Right? But we do learn, after many attempts at trying to ” swim” in our own strength, we learn we cant do this without Holy Spirit ! Therein is our prayer, ” “You call me out upon the waters, the great unknown, where feet may fail, And there I find You in the mystery, in oceans deep my faith will stand, And I will call upon Your Name, and keep my eyes above the waves , when oceans rise my soul will rest in Your embrace, For I am Yours , and You are mine. Your grace abounds in deepest waters , Your sovereign hand, will be my guide, where feet may fail and fear surrounds me, You’ve never failed, and You won’t start now…………………………….Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, /wherever You would call me, take me deeper than my feet could ever wander, and my faith will be made stronger, in the Presence of my Savior………Oh that is my prayer today!!!!!!!!!

When we were kids, we went to a summer place in the Catskills, and we went to a swimming hole, that had a very high point, we would ” jump from” into the deep waters below, and hope and pray we didn’t smash our heads on the rocks jutting up from the deep! I remember how frightening it was to muster up the gumption to first run, you had to run to jump out far enough to not hit the rocks, than the exhilaration of ” letting go” of the ground and being ” sky-bound ” for a few moments, before the plunge and being swallowed up in the deep, going down to touch the bottom and pushing back up to break the water, it was so exciting !!!! That is what the Holy Spirit wants me to do !!!! Trust Him, Let Go of all that keeps me bound to this world, letting go of past mistakes and disappointments, and JUMP and IN HIS STRENGTH , Let Him accomplish HIS PURPOSE in me !!!

Everything we do… We can not do unless it’s with you Lord. If you are not there we will drown. But with you by ourside we can do… Help us to do the things you would want us to do. Take us to the depths of faith you want us to have in you. Give us the courage to do the things that are of you. Help us to be like children at the beach unafraid of the depths of the ocean just having fun. Give us that joy as we do your will. Guide us to do that.
