DEVOTION: “Those who do not think about their own sins make up for it by thinking incessantly about the sins of others. It is healthier to think of one’s own.” (Pg 64)
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” – Matthew 7:3-5
Problems. We’ve all got them. Sometimes we like to pay more attention to others problems rather thank thinking about our own. We think we can help them more than we can help ourselves.
Jesus is pretty clear here.
We need to take care of our own issues before we can help others with theirs.
It’s such a simple statement, yet one that is so hard to follow through on sometimes.
Today, just an quick reminder. Let’s be sure that we are in good shape before we try to mold and shape someone else’s shape.
Let’s chat with Jesus about the plank in our own eye before we start to focus on the speck in someone else’s.
