DEVOTION: The Christian is not to ask whether this or that event happened because of prayer. He is rather to believe that all events without exception are answers to prayer in the sense that whether they are grantings or refusals the prayers of all concerned and their needs have all been taken into account. All prayers are heard, though not all prayers are granted. We must not picture destiny as a film unrolling for the most part on its own, but in which our prayers are sometimes allowed to insert additional items. On the contrary, what the film displays to us as it unrolls already contains the results of our prayers and of all our other acts. (Pg56)
Believe that all events without exception are answers to prayers.
That is a hard statement to swallow. But…there’s truth in it for sure. Everything that happens in our lives, everything, is known by God. The good, the bad, the in between…everything. He knows it’s going to happen and, hard to say but, uses it for good.
Why do I say it’s hard to say….because, it’s hard to realize, when someone is sick, suffering or dying, that God is going to use it for good.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” – Romans 8:28
Yes. This is a hard verse to read. But…Jesus.
Paul goes on to say this:
“If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” – Romans 8:31-32
Then he goes on to say this:
“In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-29
So in the midst of our doubt, our pain, our hurt, our frustration….there’s this love that Jesus gives each and every one of us. It’s a love that cannot be broken or taken away. It’s a love that cannot be explained.
Our God is sovereign. His ways are a mystery to us and yet…He is our Abba, our Father and His love for us will never change.
Read those verses again, if they’re hard to read, read them again. Then pray. Pray that God would continue to give you understanding, hope and pray that His love would overcome and overpower any other feelings that you have today….
