12.13.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on prayer. Part 28. Focus…again…again.

DEVOTION: So let’s stay focused on this topic of focus…it’s something that we need to keep diving into.

“If we lay all the cards on the table, God will help us moderate the excesses. But the pressures of things we are trying to keep out of our mind is a hopeless distraction. As someone said, “No noise is so emphatic as one you are trying not to listen to.” (pg 39)

So..this brings up the idea of the “prayer list”. This long, excessive, Santa like list that we bring to God. We do this..sometimes too much….where we just go on and on and on and on and on and on with our prayers, rambling and rambling and talking and talking….but God, in His patience, listens.

So, sometimes our prayers are excessive. OK. Yet, if we are mindful of this, really mindful of it, we can then trim off some of the fat and get to a more focused prayer. A prayer that will be more poignant and direct. I think then, that’s when God starts to work.

I tell this to my kids all the time. It’s great to have tons of great ideas but the scattered fragments of ideas don’t amount to the one idea that rises to the top. That’s the one with the legs.

Same here. Let’s let our prayers be more focused. Let’s take the excess of our prayer life and throw it off to the side.

Let’s let God work with the stuff that we’re really focused on and the stuff that really needs to see a change.

Yes the example of the sinner that prayed in the gospel Jesus said he was more justified then the one who made long prayers. God wants us to be real not fake really sincere and I think many short and simple prayers are fine with him. Sometimes when a person in my life needs a prayer it is simple. Heavenly Father ,this person needs your addional attention today. Thankyou for all you have done for us and we are grateful for what you will do in Jesus name Amen.

Amen. Bring your focused prayers to him and really get to know God in you. Take time to really dig deeper into your heart.
