DEVOTION: “Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” – James 1:15
Smith goes on to say after quoting this verse: When anything has taken me from God, it means death in some way. Anything that hinders me from denying myself and taking up my cross is of the Devil. Anything that separates me from God is of the Devil. Anything that hinders me from being purified every day is carnal, and it is death.
Yes. Death. The verse in James clearly states that desire gives birth to sin, sin gives birth to death.
It can’t really mean that can it? All of these things that distract us from God can bring death?
It’s a slippery slope. Yesterday, we spoke about what distracts you, pulls you away from God.
Today, we speak further into that. How does that one small distraction grow? Does it make you say…”Oh, it’s only this once that I’ll skip my prayers.” or “It’s only today that I’ll forget my devotions or my time with God.” or “It’s only this one small lie, no one will ever know.”
Those small, innocent conversations lead to the action repeating itself and repeating itself making it easier and easier to make the action easier.
These small things that pull us away from God. This is where we get lost. Where we get tripped up. Where we find ourselves getting pushed out into deeper and deeper waters that we find hard to navigate. Hard to recover.
Yesterdays exercise was thinking of what distracts you from God. Today, pray about that and pray that God would bring you closer to Him so that you can defeat the small temptations that pull you away from Him.
Today. Fight for your relationship with God. Fight the temptation to be pulled away from Him. Fight the temptation to sin and bring His life back into your life.
