11.8.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on the Holy Spirit. Part 120. Death?

DEVOTION: “Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” – James 1:15

Smith goes on to say after quoting this verse: When anything has taken me from God, it means death in some way. Anything that hinders me from denying myself and taking up my cross is of the Devil. Anything that separates me from God is of the Devil. Anything that hinders me from being purified every day is carnal, and it is death.

Whoa…death?

Yes. Death. The verse in James clearly states that desire gives birth to sin, sin gives birth to death.

It can’t really mean that can it? All of these things that distract us from God can bring death?

It’s a slippery slope. Yesterday, we spoke about what distracts you, pulls you away from God.

Today, we speak further into that. How does that one small distraction grow? Does it make you say…”Oh, it’s only this once that I’ll skip my prayers.” or “It’s only today that I’ll forget my devotions or my time with God.” or “It’s only this one small lie, no one will ever know.”

Those small, innocent conversations lead to the action repeating itself and repeating itself making it easier and easier to make the action easier.

These small things that pull us away from God. This is where we get lost. Where we get tripped up. Where we find ourselves getting pushed out into deeper and deeper waters that we find hard to navigate. Hard to recover.

Yesterdays exercise was thinking of what distracts you from God. Today, pray about that and pray that God would bring you closer to Him so that you can defeat the small temptations that pull you away from Him.

Today. Fight for your relationship with God. Fight the temptation to be pulled away from Him. Fight the temptation to sin and bring His life back into your life.

” Search me O God and know my heart, try me and know my mind, See if there be any way in me. that keeps me from following You. My heart has deceived me many times before, I’ve walked in my own desires, strip away all of my selfishness, clothe me with more of You! For Lord You have searched me and know me well, and yet You invite me to come, to the mountain You dwell on in holiness, where my heart and Yours can be one. Search me O God, reveal to me, the power You’ve placed within me, its time that my heart be completely Yours, time to give You control. Shine Your light into my heart…………………….” Hallelujah, Amen !!!!!!!

Lord may my path be guided by you and if my path should veer, guide me back to the way. Remind me that you are with me always and everywhere. You are my pilot and I am to follow your commandments. Thank you for these and all the words spoken and unspoken. You flow through me and help me grow each day.
