DEVOTION: I’m going to continue the quote that was included yesterday as there a few important points in there. Here’s how it continues:
“But he also knows that all his real knowledge of God comes through Christ, the Man who was God – that Christ is standing beside him, helping him to pray, praying for him. You see what is happening. God is the thing to which he is praying, the goal he is trying to reach. God is also the thing inside him, pushing him on. the motive power….The whole threefold life of the three-personal Being is actually going on in that little bedroom where an ordinary man or woman is saying his prayers.” (pg 7)
There’s a lot here but the one thing that I really want to point out is when he says that Christ is standing beside us as we pray. Helping us to pray. Praying for us.
In my line of work there is a lot of drive time. A lot of time in the van, alone with my thoughts. There are many days where I just sit, drive and pray. I imagine Jesus beside me, in the passengers seat…and we have these conversations.
OK. It might sound a little nuts but it helps me visualize the relationship that I have with Jesus. I try to have this conversational relationship where we’re actually talking to each other…because…we are! It’s a conversation. A back and forth conversation. It’s not me listing out a few things that I need that day and then hoping that Jesus hears me.
He knows my heart. He knows what I’m going to say before I say it. He knows. Yet…He listens. He wants to listen and then He actually prays for me to the Father.
Jesus. The Son of God. The One who died for me. For my sins. The one who listens to my constant nagging and complaining.
He’s praying for me. For you.
