11.15.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on prayer. Part 1.

DEVOTION: Hey everyone. So yesterday’s devotion made me think more and more about prayer and if I’m doing it right or wrong. If there is a right or wrong way to pray. Does it matter?

So…i got a book by C.S. Lewis called “How to Pray” and started to read it.

It’s interesting and brings up some good points. I’m going to start to dig into this and share some thoughts and quotes with you. I’m hoping it will help us all become better pray-ers. Is that a word?

Here’s the first quote that got me highlighting it in the book:

“For prayer is request. The essence of request, as distinct from compulsion, is that it may or may not be granted. An infinitely wise Being listens to the requests of finite and foolish creatures, of course, He will sometimes grant and sometimes refuse them.” (pg 3)

So. First idea I had and the one that got me praying this morning was….we are foolish and finite creatures….and yet, God listens. He hears our prayers. Our silly requests and the ones that aren’t so silly. The long prayers and the short ones. All of them. He hears them all.

So maybe the prayer today is….”Thank you God for even listening to the prayer requests of this foolish and finite creature.”

A few verses on God hearing our prayers:

1 Peter 3:12 – “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

1 John 5:15 – “And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

Jeremiah 29:12-13; “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

More to come as we roll ahead.

PRAYER: Today, begin to think about your prayers. About what you pray about and about how you pray. Do you actually believe that God hears them all? Why doesn’t He answer them all?

This “study” will actually be an answer to my first entry into my prayer bowl! “Lord, Teach me how to pray!! Teach me how to quiet my mind and open my heart to what you would have for me during this Blessed time in your awesome presence”!
I am praising Him for his answer now! Thanks, Dave!!!

Prayer is so essential. If you don’t know what to pray for just let your heart do the talking because that is God guiding you. It can be a simple Thank you for getting me up today. Eventually it might be a discussion with God. Nothing begins if you don’t quiet your mind and trust in the one who loves you unconditionally. He will fill you beyond your needs. Let us Pray. Amen

Holy Spirit You are so amazing ! I wrote this down earlier this morning, as I have been returning to and going over books on prayer, and Andrew Murray is one of my very favorite Christian authors and I have been starting to read again ” With Christ in the School of Prayer” Unlock the Power of Prayer, this is the quote I wrote early this morning, ” Each time before you intercede, be quiet first, and worship God in His glory. Think of what He can do, and how he delights to hear the prayers of His redeemed people. Think of your place and privilege in Christ and expect great things. ” Andrew Murray I love the verses you chose Dave and one that comes to my mind after reading this is Jeremiah 33: 3 ” Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” We can have that expectation that God will hear and grant us His good and perfect will in all we come to Him about !

If we truly believe as we do that God will answer our prayers. Just remember it might not be in our time but His. He will work all things out for HIs good. But in waiting in stillness, I pray that I don’t try to take anything back and let you dear Lord work it out. As your timing will be perfect. What you don’t work out or say no to, I know if for my good. I know you will have even something more amazing planned. Sometimes one door has to close for us to wait in the hall way worshiping you Lord while waiting for that other door to open. In those times I put my trust in you.
