11.14.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. Groan.

DEVOTION: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” – Romans 8:26

Our weaknesses. We have many.

The one that Paul points out here is our inability to pray. He literally says that we do not know what to pray for as we ought. The NLT version says that we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. The Message says “if we do not know how or what to for, it doesn’t matter.”

I don’t think I ever caught this part of the verse.

This idea that…maybe we actually don’t know how to pray. Is there a right and wrong way to pray?

Hmmm.

Makes me think.

Well, either way, the Spirit in us guides our prayers and if we don’t actually know what to pray for, the Spirit groans on our behalf. Amazing.

The Spirit of God in us is so concerned with our well being that even when we’re praying wrong, it makes it right. The Spirit groans for us. An incredible thought.

So, maybe today. Ask God how to pray. Ask God about what to pray for and how to approach Him with your prayers.

Be silent and let the Spirit groan for you today.

When we don’t know how to pray I always remember that God taught us how to pray with the Lords Prayer too. But I can say I don’t think I remember catching this part where the spirit intercedes for us with groaning to deep for words. That is very cool. Thank you Lord Jesus.

We pray about everything , right ? ” to pray without ceasing”, the word says. That”s all the time! For me , its all prayer when I ” set my mind on Him”, talking to Holy Spirit, Jesus , Abba , and singing and praising and worshiping, its all prayer!!!. And even in those times we don”t have the words, we just fall on our knees, and sometimes just cry, that can be the ” groaning ” of the Holy Spirit too . We see in part, so many times I pray to see things the way Jesus, Father God, sees, His perspective, not mine. the words to the song and prayer , ” break my heart , for what breaks yours “. is appropriate So many thoughts !!!
