DEVOTION: “This same Jesus has come for one purpose: that He might be made so manifest in us that the world will see Him. We must be burning and shining lights to reflect such a holy Jesus. We cannot do it with cold, indifferent experiences, and we never will….His servants are to be flames. Jesus is life, and the Holy Spirit is the breath. He breathes through us the life of the Son of God, and we give it to others, and it gives life to everyone. (Pg 155)
Here’s this idea again of us being lights. Us being flames. Being the light of Jesus here on this earth. Lights in our families, our friend circles, our communities. Lights to the people that we meet.
We cannot be those lights with what Smith is calling “cold, indifferent experiences.” Our experiences with people we interact with need to be kind, generous, patient, hopeful. We need to be the light and flame of Jesus to everyone we interact with.
Do we fail in that?
Oh, yes. We definitely do. All the time.
But, I think the point of this is to make us more aware of our actions and reactions. Make us more aware of how we should handle ourselves in situations.
As I’ve grown older, I try to take a second or two before responding to a statement, question or abrasive situation so that I can be sure that the words I’m about to say are ones that I can live with actually being out in the open. A word spoken can not be unspoken.
So. Today. Remember this:
Jesus has come for one purpose: that He might be made so manifest in us that the world will see Him.
How is that being accomplished in your life today.
PRAYER: Pray today that you would be a reflection of Jesus today.
