10.10.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on the Holy Spirit. Part 91. Unconditional?

DEVOTION: “Christ, who is the express image of God (Hebrews 1:3) has come to our human weaknesses in order to change them and us into a divine likeness so that , by the power of His might, we may not only overcome but rejoice in the fact that we are more than overcomers. God wants you to be “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37). The baptism of the Spirit has come for nothing less than to possess the whole of our lives.” (pg 155)

I think we often forget this. We often get caught up in our daily routines that we forget these few verses that Smith has quoted here. Let me list them out here so that we can dig into this:

Hebrews 1:3 – The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Romans 8:35 – 37 – Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Jesus, after He died for our sins and purified us….read that again….sat down at the right hand of the Father, the Majesty in Heaven. Jesus, purified you. Purified me. We sin. That sin leads to guilt and shame. That guilt and shame tries to pull us away from the Father but in actuality, the guilt and shame we feel from sin does the opposite. It draws us closer to the Father because we come to Him for forgiveness, for the kindness and love that only He can provide.

You see, as it states here in Romans, there is nothing on earth that can separate us from His love. From His forgiveness. We try to process it, we try to understand it but…when it’s unconditional love, our human minds have a hard time comprehending and relating to that. It’s hard because it’s not really our nature to love unconditionally. It’s God’s nature for sure. It’s a destination for us. Something to strive for.

With the Spirit in us, continually teaching and influencing us and our decisions, I believe we can get there, get closer to it each day if we try. If we surrender.

Today. Is unconditional love something you’re willing to talk to the Spirit of God in you about?

PRAYER: Pray for understanding. Pray for forgiveness. Pray that God would open up and reveal this idea of unconditional love to you.
