DEVOTION: Charles Spurgeon (1834–1892), the British Baptist often called “the prince of preachers,” said in regard to feelings in prayer: “We should pray when we are in a praying mood, for it would be sinful to neglect so fair an opportunity. We should pray when we are not in a proper mood, for it would be dangerous to remain in so unhealthy a condition.”
Right. So we should pray when we feel like praying…..and….we should pray when we don’t feel like praying.
Ever not feel like praying? Seriously, it’s a valid question. Have you ever not felt like praying? Short answer…yes. There have been times for sure when I just don’t feel like praying. Just don’t feel like engaging. Then…I get guilty and I pray. Just being honest here…please do the same.
You see, it’s our human-ness that gets in the way of our ability to be more like Jesus. We get in our own way so very often that we need to surrender more and more to Jesus so that we can be more and more like Jesus.
He understands this. He has patience. He has mercy. He has grace.
Thanks be to God for it all.
Today, as you pray. Thank God for just listening to us and giving us the open door to actually engage with Him. Pray for more of Him. Pray for more of Him in our lives and in our families and friends lives.
Pray more today.
