1.24.21 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on prayer. Part 69. Pray more.

DEVOTION: Charles Spurgeon (1834–1892), the British Baptist often called “the prince of preachers,” said in regard to feelings in prayer: “We should pray when we are in a praying mood, for it would be sinful to neglect so fair an opportunity. We should pray when we are not in a proper mood, for it would be dangerous to remain in so unhealthy a condition.”

Right. So we should pray when we feel like praying…..and….we should pray when we don’t feel like praying.

Ever not feel like praying? Seriously, it’s a valid question. Have you ever not felt like praying? Short answer…yes. There have been times for sure when I just don’t feel like praying. Just don’t feel like engaging. Then…I get guilty and I pray. Just being honest here…please do the same.

You see, it’s our human-ness that gets in the way of our ability to be more like Jesus. We get in our own way so very often that we need to surrender more and more to Jesus so that we can be more and more like Jesus.

He understands this. He has patience. He has mercy. He has grace.

Thanks be to God for it all.

Today, as you pray. Thank God for just listening to us and giving us the open door to actually engage with Him. Pray for more of Him. Pray for more of Him in our lives and in our families and friends lives.

Pray more today.

Yes, there are times I do not feel like praying, maybe it is anger or frustration at a person or a situation but, whatever the circumstance, there is a scripture that will apply. This one sums it up

    1 Thessalonians 5
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

God is good, so loving, very patient, full of grace and mercy. Thank God he is helping us along until we choose to and while we are renewing our mind and growing as Christians. He meets us where we are and stays close and we draw deeper. What a wonderful God we serve.

Indeed our humanness gets in the way so often, thank God HE is so patient and kind and merciful to us , how could we not constantly keep our minds on Him and praying always. Thank you Jesus for your mercy and your grace and most of all your love

I am so thankful that He loves us in our human-ness because my human-ness gets in the way a lot! I am the same in that it is guilt at not praying that keeps me praying!

Amen. Pray in the good and bad. Trust in him for he is listening.

Dave, couldn’t agree with you more. I’ve noticed when I’m not in a praying ‘mood’. I am going to plow through those moments and pray! Pray for the help to pray. The Holy Spirit will bring to mind those things we are to pray. We need to be prompted to start the conversation.
