DEVOTION: “Open the Bible, start reading it and pause at every verse and turn it into a prayer.” – John Piper
“To pray the Bible you simply go through each passage line by line, talking to God about whatever comes to mind as you read the text. If you don’t understand the meaning of the verse, go on to the next verse. Just speak to the Lord about everything that occurs to you as you slowly read His Word. You do this even if what comes to mind has nothing to do with the text itself.” – Donald Whitley
“Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” – Phil. 4:6
So according to Paul, every thought, every single thought, is something that we can bring to God. Not just the big thoughts. Not just the big problems but everything. So, no matter where our minds drift to while we’re reading Scripture, each and every thought is something that God wants to hear about. Even if it has nothing to do with what you’re actually reading.
I think the idea is just to get the mind rolling a little bit. Get our thoughts moving in a way that allows us to think differently about prayer and about the way that we pray.
I’m going to start to try this concept. I actually already do it sometimes but haven’t actually used this method.
How about you? Interested in giving this a shot?
