1.11.21 – Daily Dose of Worship. A study on prayer. Part 56. Un-Comfort Zone?

DEVOTION: More from the book “Praying the Bible”

“Jesus said that to pray this way is to pray in vain, for in the Sermon on the Mount he warned, “When you pray, do not heap empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. (Matthew 6:7).” He goes on to say this….”We believe in prayer but because we always say the same old things it drains most of the motivation from talking with God and we condemn ourselves as spiritual failures.”

Anyone ever feel this way? Where the same words come out talking about the same things. Then because you keep praying the same prayer the prayers become stale?

I have a song called “God’s TV” and the second verse starts out like this:

“If my life’s a show on God’s TV He must be tired of the re-runs, the same thing everynight.”

Now, I know that this is a very “human” way of looking at this but it kind of makes a little sense. It’s almost like watching the same episode of your favorite TV show every night. We want to maybe change…but it’s safe to keep doing the same thing.

This is especially true in our prayer life. Especially when you’re not wanting to pray “dangerous” prayers. Prayers that pull you out of your comfort zone, prayers that make change happen, prayers that make your palms sweat…

But, I think that’s where God’s calling us. Into the deeper waters, into the un-comfort zone.

Do this….maybe find something new to pray for once a week. Start small. Start with just a small change up and let it grow. The results may surprise you.

Thank you Jesus. Help make my prayers continuous and fresh. Open my eyes to the struggles around me and help me take a step toward them and begin to lift them up. Thank you for the breath of each new day. Amen

I have taken the dive off the comfort ledge so many times! Sometime the free fall is scary but it’s amazing when He catches Me! My friends and family think I am crazy! Probably! God loves me anyway!

We can believe that what we pray for will come to pass, because we believe in what God says, and that more than that, that He will do what He says when we ask. Matthew 18,18,19,20 19 alone says, ” Again, I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by Father in heaven. and vs 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, I am there in the midst of them “.
No formulas!!! Just believing Gods Word is true!!!!!!! This is only a few verses but it is why , when I pray…………….for anything or anyone ………. I believe He hears me and will answer and it is what makes ” praying” exciting !!!!!! Just thanking God !!! Praising Him in worship……can do so much in prayer. Every verse in scripture can be a prayer. ………Lam 3 22-25 ” Through the Lords mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassion’s fail not, They are new every morning, Great is You faithfulness !!!!!!!!! ” The Lord is my portion , says the Lord, Therefor I HOPE in Him!!!!!!!!The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him, It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the Lord ! Amen

Praying outside my comfort zone – one example is when we moved where we are now. My husband thought we should move her to help my Mom. I knew she would need help. But I wasn’t sure I wanted to move. I was content and comfortable where we were in CT. I loved our church, friends, home and my job. I even went into church and asked our Pastor if He could come up with a biblical reason why I should not move. I was content, happy and thankful for all that we had and were able to do. The Pastor couldn’t think of anything and told me I should listen to my husband. So with that my husband said lets put our house on the market if it sells we have our answer and if not that gives us our answer too. (I agreed as at that time in our area houses were taking about 2 years to sell). So we went and talked with our realitor and signed the papers to list our house. Then went out to dinner to talk about it. While there the realitor called wanting to know if we had found a house yet. We said no. He said I have an offer coming in on your house I think is going to go through we’ll talk Monday when you get back. The sign wasn’t even up in the yard yet and our house was sold. Well neededless to say when you pray and it’s outside of your comfortzone and give God permission to move He will if aligned with His will. That weekend we found a house our house had sold… and things moved forward faster than we could have ever imagined and we were playing catch up all the way around. In this move I have been beyond blessed by reconnecting with Dave Pettigrew and him coming to upstate NY to do worship nights which are so needed this way. I have made friends that I never would have otherwise.. And reconnected with good friends too. The good friends we had in CT are still in touch. One is silver and the other is gold. In it all we are able to be here for Mom and all the needs she has had. God is good. His plans can be better than ours. IF we can just let Him guide us. I’m learning to go along with the ride better these days. But outside the comfortzones can be so hard. I so get it. But God is there through it all if it’s His will. He never lets us down.
