1.10.20 – Daily Dose of Worship. 1 Timothy 6:6-7. Content?

PRAYER: Please pray for this weekends shows. Pray that lives would be changed.

DEVOTION: “Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it.” – 1 Timothy‬ ‭6:6-7

“You can’t take it with you.” The old saying that we hear all the time as we travel around from place to place…but it’s true! You can’t.

This word, contentment, is a big one. Are you content? Do you have what you need? Are you striving for more? Do you long for more? Do you place things on a pedestal that they shouldn’t be on?

I think that’s Paul’s warning here. Godliness with contentment is great wealth. This constant striving, wanting, desiring. It leads to distraction and bitterness in our hearts. But contentment….that provides great wealth. To be content in ones heart with what you have leads to a peaceful life.

When we really look at it….what more could we need? God has provided so much for us.

I give a talk every night from stage and ask the question….Did anyone have trouble finding clean water today, anyone have trouble finding food? No. We’re pretty content in those departments. The rest is just stuff.

Let’s take a check on our stuff. Let’s take a check on our contentment and get our priorities straight.

Jesus first.

Ahh…I LOVE this verse and ran across it a few weeks ago. It is my special verse for this year as my Word of the Year for 2020 I felt strongly about is “Contentment.” I had only read a blog post about discontentment where I felt the Spirit telling me “contentment” was my word. Usually I get more “confirmations” about the word; when I saw this Timothy verse I knew that was the perfect one indeed!! Concentrating on the “Godliness” is perfect too. It is a good practice for me to try practicing contentment in every circumstance! No matter what…being content….God is in charge of everything! Here is a link to my thoughts last year on choosing a Word of the Year: https://www.hopetoinspireyou.com/2019/01/23/word-of-the-year/
